'Nashville' season 5 spoilers: Is Rayna James dead?
Rayna James (Connie Britton) just survived a stalker's attack, but her fate remains unknown after getting into a car crash in "Nashville" season 5.
In the previous episode, Rayna appeared to be seriously injured after a speeding vehicle hit the police truck where she was sitting after sorting out her hostage situation with a stalker.
Rayna's life-or-death situation reignited the rumors that Britton will leave the country musical drama after sources reportedly told Entertainment Weekly in August 2016 that the actress only agreed to appear in 10 episodes for the current season. But the actress refuted the rumors of her exit in an interview with "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in early January, saying that she will stay with the show during its entire duration.
Meanwhile, series showrunner Marshall Herskovitz explained the unexpected car crash scene in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to Herskovitz, the unforeseen randomness normally happens in real life.
But the car crash and the stalker incident that happened to Rayna on the same night might have a little connection.
"The fact this was an accident was in a way irrelevant, because this would have never happened if she hadn't been in this situation with this man and they hadn't put her in a car and were rushing her home, the showrunner stated. So it's entirely connected, but more of a karmic connection rather than a direct connection to the man himself."
However, Herskovitz opted not to share more details about the upcoming episode titled "If Tomorrow Never Comes" to further increase the anticipation. "You know she's alive in the previews for next week. But we want people to be in the same state her family is in," he also said in the interview. This means that fans have to wait for a few days in order to find out how will the incidents affect Rayna in the show's upcoming episode.
CMT will air the next episode of "Nashville" season 5 on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
