As the Gear Fit 2 was released by Samsung recently, it was billed as being as fitness band but it also has several features of a smartwatch. Here is how the new Gear Fit 2 compares against the Moto 360 Sport which was released at the beginning of this year.

Design

The Moto 360 Sport looks and feels like a watch and that is a big plus point for the device. However, it does not have any classic elements in it and looks very much like any other sports-focused offering. As for the case, it's round and made from steel but the strap of the Moto 360 Sport, which is made from silicone rubber, wraps all the way around the case. Coming to colors, there are only three to choose from: white, flame orange and black. Finally, in terms of waterproofing and dust-proofing, the Moto 360 Sport comes with a IP67 rating.

Coming to the Gear Fit 2, it is designed along the lines of a fitness band and so it cannot be mistaken for a smartwatch. Its body is rectangular, flush with the strap and is made from fiberglass and aluminum. The strap is made from elastomer and it comes in three colors: blue, black and pink. As for its water and dust-proof rating, it has an IP68 certification, which means it can remain submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

In terms of operating systems, the Gear Fit 2 runs on Tizen and is compatible with Android devices. The Moto 360 Sport runs Android Wear and can be paired with iOS and Android devices.

Display

The display onboard the Moto 360 sport is a hybrid version called the AnyLight hybrid display. It measures 1.37 inches and has a resolution of 360 X 325 pixels, along with a density of 263 pixels per inch. On the Gear Fit 2, there is a rectangular Super AMOLED display that is pretty big and measures 1.5 inches. It comes with a resolution of 216 x 432 pixels.

Hardware

On the Moto 360 Sport, there is a Snapdragon 400 chipset that is coupled with a quad-core CPU. RAM onboard the device is 512 MB while storage is pegged at 4 GB.

Coming to the Gear Fit 2, it has a dual core processor along with 4 GB storage and 512 MB RAM.

Sensors

The Gear Fit 2 comes with GPS inbuilt and it also has an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer and heart rate sensor. On the Moto 360 Sport, there is a GPS in addition to an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometric altimeter ambient light sensor, heart rate sensor and haptics engine.

Price

Comparing prices, the Gear Fit 2 costs $179 while the Moto 360 Sport comes with a price tag of $187 in the United States.
