'Mistresses' season 5 canceled, update: Karen Kim 2.0 cliffhanger to remain a mystery

ABC has finally announced their plans for the hit series "Mistresses." Fans will be sad to learn that there will be no continuation for April's (Rochelle Aytes) and Joss' (Jess Macallan) stories since the show has been canceled.
The series officially said goodbye to Yunjin Kim's character, Karen, last installment. The finale caught many viewers by surprise, after it was revealed that Karen died. It was an unexpected end for the quirky character, since she was so close to her happy ending. She has her baby and her new man was seriously considering marrying her. For the fans (as per Game N Guide), Kim's exit spelled less anticipation for the new season, if ABC gave the show another chance to tie up loose ends. Aytes and Macallan were the two remaining original characters.
Executive producer Rina Mimoun made it clear in her recent interview that the decision to kill off Karen was a mutual decision between them and Kim. The actress reportedly sought them out to express her desire to move on to a different project. She said that they were considering a drastic storyline for one of the girls prior to the meeting. Because of Kim's request, they were able to come up with a good ending for her character.
Meanwhile, Mimoun also previously revealed her hopes that ABC would renew the series. If given the green light, she said they have big plans for the woman who claimed her name was also Karen Kim in the finale. She also said that they would introduce new characters in season 5.
"I don't think in Season 5, we're looking to create a whole new series regular. But [Karen Kim 2.0] would be prominently featured, as would [Harry's newly discovered adult son] Gabe. Plus, there's a ton of new characters we want to bring into our world who naturally fit, and a few who've been missed, who we'd want to bring back to spark a little fun. We'd do it knowing it was out final season, to be able to tie it off in a way that's satisfying for the fans," the EP told TV Line.
Since the series has already been canceled, the viewers will probably never know who Karen 2.0 really is. It will remain a mystery if she has any connection to the dead Karen.
