Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez 2015: Canelo is expected to clinch it
The much-awaited match between Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is scheduled for Nov. 21 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event, which will be live on HBO Pay-Per-View, will see the two fighters vie for the WBC middleweight title.
Based on fight predictions from critics, the young Mexican, Canelo, is posed to win primarily due to his youth and size. "I want this to be a historic fight. I'm honored to be fighting a true warrior," he said.
In response to early fight predictions, "I don't really care what the critics say. I am prepared to give Canelo a fight on November 21st and that's all that matters," Cotto said. The Puerto Rican WBC middleweight champion, despite having more wear and tear, has more experience in the ring compared to his opponent.
Freddie Roach, Cotto's trainer, revealed last August, "We have hard preparation ahead of us, but we will be ready and Cotto will win by knockout," Roach confidently predicted.
Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, Boxing Hall of Fame trainer, predicts a victory for his fellow Mexican fighter. According to Beristain, Canelo's speed and ability to adapt will help him. Despite the odds being in his favor, his victory will be hard earned. "Cotto is a complete fighter, very good, motivated and eager to get a return fight with Floyd Mayweather, so he will give everything to win," Beristain said.
Felix "Tito" Trinidad, Boxing Hall of Fame fighter, surprised many when he predicted that Alvarez would defeat his fellow Puerto Rican, Cotto. According to Trinidad, Canelo is younger and stronger. "In my personal opinion I think it's a tough fight but Canelo has most of the advantages in this fight. I think he will win," Trinidad revealed.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Cotto, 35, is working hard and aiming for a "total victory." Cotto is currently working on his strength and conditioning with coach Gavin McMillan, while Roach is working on Cotto's strategy and training plan.
