Memphis Grizzlies 2015 trade rumors: Interested in Greg Oden?

Greg Oden has not played in the NBA since the 2013-14 season when he was with the Miami Heat, but fortunately there is still at least one team interested in his services.

Rumors have surfaced that the Memphis Grizzlies are looking at the 27-year-old as a back-up for their loaded front court.

The Grizzlies had bowed out of the NBA Playoffs after being eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the second round, but are still considered one of the best teams in the league.

A big part of the consideration is the pair of big men who anchor the Grizzlies' both on the defensive and offensive end.

Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph have been among the few very reliable big men in the league. Along with the other players, they helped Memphis finish with a 55-27 record, with Gasol leading the team with 17.4 points per game, while Randolph not far behind with 16.1 per night.

Both players also combined to average around 18.3 rebounds per contest and both shoot the ball extremely well, with Gasol converting 49% of his attempts and Randolph shooting at around the same consistency.

However, they appeared to lack the depth required to give their big men some much-needed rest and that cost them in the playoffs.

That's what they hope Oden will bring to the table if they choose to take the risk with the former Number 1 draft pick.

Taken first overall in the 2007 draft, Oden suffered multiple knee injuries that have hampered his growth in the league. His best year was 2009-2010 when he recovered from a previous injury to play 21 games before getting injured again and missing the next three seasons. During that time, he averaged 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

He was taken by the Heat in the 2013-14 season, but only played 23 games. He was given less than 10 minutes of playing time each night and averaged only 2.9 points per game.

His output falls way short than what he had displayed in his lone college season with Ohio State. In 32 games, he had averaged 15.7 points and 9.7 rebounds, while shooting close to 62% a night.

If Memphis do sign Oden and delivers even half of what is expected of the big man, then he would certainly be a welcome addition to the Grizzlies.
