Marvel's 'Luke Cage' cast updates: Rosario Dawson returns as Claire Temple; Misty Knight, Black Mariah, Shades, and Cottonmouth already cast

Luke Cage is set to appear in his wife's TV series before headlining his own. But that does not mean development in his standalone show is on hold; in fact, it is in full-swing with new cast being added from time to time.

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe being all ironed out, crossovers are to be expected and "Luke Cage" (portrayed by Mike Colter) will not be immune to that. Aside from the Marvel superhero making an appearance in the Netflix series, "Jessica Jones" (featuring the superhero of the same name, played by Krysten Ritter), he will also be joined in his own show by a known "Daredevil" character.

Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) had a brief non-love affair with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) aka Daredevil. But in the comics, she is more known as a love interest for Luke Cage, which brings Dawson to reprise her role in the upcoming "Luke Cage" series. She will also be making an appearance in the same role in "Jessica Jones."

Also in the third Marvel series for Netflix is Misty Knight, who apparently will be called Missy in the show and played by young actress Simone Missick. In the comics, Missy is known as a bionic-armed woman (thanks to Tony Stark) formerly working for the NYPD. She will help out Cage in his "Hero for Hire" mission.

But what's a superhero show without a villain, right? Also added to the cast of this Netflix show are Alfre Woodard and Theo Rossi, both filling in villainous shoes as Black Mariah and career criminal Shades, respectively. Harlem club owner Cornell Stokes aka Cottonmouth has also been cast. "House of Cards" actor Mahershala Ali will portray the character and will most likely be season one's big bad villain.

Netflix has scheduled "Luke Cage" for 2016. "Jessica Jones" will premiere before 2015 ends.
