'Marco Polo' season 3 news: What will happen to Kublai Khan?

It has been a while since the second season of "Marco Polo" has aired and no official season 3 renewal has been made yet. Speculations are rife that actor Benedict Wong, who plays Kublai Khan on the series, has a lot to do with it.
Wong has entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe via the movie "Doctor Strange" where he plays Wong. His involvement in the first movie has been reported to cause conflict as he had to film and do some promotions. The movie has already premiered, yet his character is also scheduled to appear in other Marvel movies.
Kublai Khan is an important character in the series "Marco Polo" and, while other factors have been pointed out to be the probable cause of renewal delays, most speculations involve Wong. Other factors mentioned include ratings and production cost. However, both seasons have remained popular among critics and viewers.
Reports suggest that Netflix and the people behind "Marco Polo" have finally decided to make some adjustments that would include the exit of Kublai Khan. According to rumors, Kublain Khan will be killed earlier on in season 3 and Hundred Eyes (Tom Wu) will be the character who the story will shift its focus on.
Season 2 has shown the start of Kublai Khan's fall wherein more and more of his rivals have come to attack him simultaneously and altogether. Hundred Eyes is his blind Taoist servant who also used to mentor Marco Polo, so Kublai Khan's death would see him taking over the command.
Kublai Khan has become one of the most-beloved characters on the series and, while Wong's performance in season 1 was highly appreciated, he got mixed reviews for the second season. Hundred Eyes, in the meantime, has endeared himself more in the previous season.
No official statement has been issued yet, so for now, it is best to take the news with a grain of salt.
