MacBook Air 2016 release date in September, laptop line discontinuation untrue?

(Apple)Inset is the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air 2015. Rumor has it that Apple has decided to discontinue the MacBook Air series.

China tech giant Xiaomi just recently released the Mi Notebook Air laptop that could rival Apple's outdated MacBook Air. Because of the new competition, a lot of users are wondering when the Cupertino-based company will unveil the upgrade for MacBook Air. Rumor has it, September is the launch.

A few more weeks to go until September, and many users and Apple fans are expecting for the tech giant to unveil something new in its annual September event. Although the company still has not announced whether it will hold an event next month, there is a high chance that it will be unveiling its latest offerings by then, including a new and improved MacBook Air.

According to reports, the Air laptop will be replacing its ports with the new USB Type-C ports, which can serve faster and better than the other ports. However, there are speculations that the USB Type-C ports are eyed to be added on the MacBook Pro laptop line because there is a possibility that Apple will no longer continue producing the MacBook Air.

Because the Air lacks mind-blowing improvements for the past years, Apple may decide to cancel the laptop line and focus its eyes on building a way better MacBook Pro, which it may build as thin as the Air. However, some reports refuted this claim, saying it is impossible for the Pro to be as thin as the Air because it would mean that the hardware will be made more compact, which would be very impossible to do.

While fans wait for the release of the MacBook Air, Xiaomi's newly launched Mi Notebook Air is gaining popularity. Not only it resembles Apple's thinnest laptops, but it can also be purchased at a much lower price. The 13.3-inch variant costs 4,999 yuan ($750) and the 12.5 inches costs 3,499 yuan ($525). According to reports, although it has solid specs, it lacks a powerful graphics card.

Apple may soon reveal the upcoming MacBook Air this September.
