'Longmire' season 5 spoilers; Longmire and Monahan a couple?
"Longmire" is on its way for a fifth season, Netflix confirmed just a month after the fourth season premiere was released. But there is no update yet from the streaming service if shooting for new episodes has already begun.
There is no exact date for the upcoming season premiere, but there are speculations that fans may expect to have it by the second half of 2016. As International Business Times observed, Netflix is known for surprising viewers by announcing the exact release date of a given show just weeks ahead. There is a high possibility that they are going to do the same trend with "Longmire."
While there is no plot synopsis revealed yet for season 5, it is likely to pick up where the last season left off: Walter Longmire having an intimate moment with his new love interest, Dr. Monahan (Ally Walker), when intruders broke into the house.
Prior to Netflix acquisition of the show, "Longmire" had been running for three seasons on A&E before the network cancelled it in August 2014.
The fourth season, which aired through Netflix, had done well in terms of viewership ratings. While information on viewership is not publicly disclosed, Netflix head Ted Sarandos said via TV Guide that "relative to the network audience, we were very pleased" with the series.
During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in California, Sarandos revealed why the series is still on their list. Because "Longmire" caters to the older demographic, [Netflix] service can now tap a wider market.
Variety reported that show co-creator John Coveny said, "We want human beings to watch this show — if it has heart and soul to it, we need that piece in the Netflix family."
"Longmire" is based on the "Walt Longmire Mysteries" book series authored by Craig Johnson. The story mainly revolves around Walt Longmire (played by Robert Taylor), a sheriff of a small town in Wyoming.
