'Longmire' season 4 spoilers and update: filming slated March 23 with fall release to Netflix, Walter investigates wife's death

(Netflix/Facebook)Season four scheduled to release by fall, filming beings end of March.

"Longmire" fans were heartbroken when A&E cancelled the crime drama last year but the show was saved from the clutches of the grim reaper when Netflix picked it up. This is good news for both fans and the production team who will be given no censorship, longer running time and ample space to make changes. Additionally, Netflix traditionally releases all episodes of a particular season on the scheduled air date, so fans can binge-watch all 10 episodes of the hit series on the slated release date.

Little else is known about "Longmire" as it is still in its pre-production stage. However, filming is slated to being late March as cast and crew members are frequently informing fans on Twitter about the show's progress. Tony Tost, writer of the series, confirmed that filming will begin as per schedule by tweeting, "#Longmire production for S4 kicks in late March. We're deep into the writing. It's already my favorite season. So much history now in play."

Phillips also confirmed that filming begins on March 23 and the season will premiere by next fall. He tweeted, "@drofdem @LouDPhillips They start filming the new season on 3/23, hopefully will premiere on Netflix by fall."

Season four will end where season three left off, on a major cliffhanger. Walter will continue to investigate his wife's murder. It seems that Walter will share his past with daughter Cady, who was made to believe that her mother died of cancer. Season four's first episode will pick up immediately after the gun went off during Walter's confrontation with the supposed killer of his wife in a shocking season three finale.

Meanwhile, fans looking for their regular "Longmire" fix will have to be content with season three's DVD release. Stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase and Cassidy Freeman return for the upcoming season.
