'Limitless' season 2 renewal hopes: the end for Brian Finch?

Fans of the axed CBS series "Limitless" are still not giving up their hopes that the "dramedy" will get picked up by other networks for season 2.
In May, executive producer Craig Sweeny tweeted (as per TV Line) the sad news that CBS did not renew "Limitless." Both Amazon and Netflix also passed on the opportunity to become the show's next home.
Sweeny even took the time to answer the fans' questions and refute the rumors that there would a second installment. On his Twitter post, he said he was "truly sad" the Jake McDorman-starred series would not continue on "any platform." The EP also thanked the fans who have shown support from the start. He also denied that their main star would be replaced in the event of a renewal.
Meanwhile, an online petition to prompt CBS to renew the show is still ongoing. As per Game N Guide, many viewers are frustrated about the many networks' decision to axe a show after only one season, especially when it is doing good. For "Limitless," the storyline was not even given a proper ending.
Currently, the petition already has close to 19,000 supporters, now way past its original target of 3,000 signatures. If CBS will remain firm with its decision, they hope that other networks will take in the show. At the moment though, it looks like nobody has stepped forward to take the challenge.
"Limitless" is based on a movie with the same title, which was released in 2011. It follows the story of Brian Finch (McDorman) who works for the FBI in solving complicated cases. He discovered that his cognitive prowess goes off the chart once he ingests a drug called NZT. Finch works closely with Special Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter) and Special Agent Spellman Boyle (Hill Harper). He also has a strange relationship with Senator Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper), who personally knows what NZT is capable of doing.
