'Limitless' season 2 renewal hopes: Executive producer Craig Sweeny still looking forward to a renewal
Executive producer Craig Sweeny continues to interact with "Limitless" fans on Twitter in hopes for a season 2.
About three months after the show's cancellation was announced, Sweeny's personal Twitter account is filled with re-tweets stating how great the show is and how deserving it is to be renewed. The first season is currently airing on Netflix, but the network remains quiet about the show's fate.
On May 25, Sweeny posted, "I'm truly sad to report that #Limitless will not continue on any platform. Thanks so much to everyone who watched." Some fans have also gathered to petition the show and Sweeny would reply to some posts since. His re-tweets have intensified in the past weeks, however, with more and more social media users calling the show "lit af."
Urban dictionary defines "lit af" as an expression used when one is so high that no normal words are left to describe. On Aug. 20, Sweeny even posted, "Hates 'lit af,' but willing to make an exception for prospect of ssn 2."
Despite the good reviews and average ratings garnered by the first season of "Limitless," CBS still decided to cancel the show. Fans of the series are hoping Netflix will decide to renew the show, but an interview with the network's head of original content, Cindy Holland, may suggest the show is not what they are looking for.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holland acknowledged the success of their varying original series and has expressed intentions to produce more pilot series to cater to the audiences. She also mentioned comedy as one of the networks interests moving forward.
She said, "Comedies of varying types are an area of extreme interest to us. We haven't seen the perfect Western project yet, either."
Would an increase in Netflix viewers influence the decision to renew the show? For now, fans just have to wait.
