'Legion' season premiere, plot news: New Fox series will feature the son of X-Men's Professor X

Fox is going to give birth to an "X-Men" spin-off next month titled "Legion" that will follow the life of a young man named David Haller (Dan Stevens), the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier, best known as Professor X. In the premiere episode titled "Chapter One," David will come to understand that what is believed to be his schizophrenic condition is actually indicative of his special condition.
In the episode synopsis, David will meet a fellow patient named Syd (Rachel Keller) who will help him change the way he perceives his visions and the voices that he hears in his head. For most of his life, David has been in and out of various psychiatric institutions trying to find some meaning and a possible solution to his unique and often disturbing experiences.
David has the unique gift of telekinesis and telepathy and is considered to be an omega mutant, while Syd has the ability to trade places with the people she comes in physical contact with. Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) is another mutant who will be introduced in the series and is known to be a memory artist who has the special capacity to take people back into their own memories.
Unfortunately, while the TV series is still part of the Marvel universe, no famous mutant from the X-Men, such as Professor X, Jean Grey, or Wolverine, will appear on the show.
"I'm firm believer the show has to stand on its own two feet," show creator Noah Hawley told Entertainment Weekly. "For a crossover to be possible we have to earn that right through the quality of our storytelling and hopefully our popularity. David's origin story hasn't changed, so we haven't changed that connection to the X-Men universe."
Other members of the cast include Mackenzie Gray as The Eye, Scott Lawrence as Dr. Poole, Katie Aselton as Amy Haller, Tatyana Forrest as Gabrielle Haller who is David's mother, Bill Irwin as Cary Loudermilk, Amber Midthunder as Kerry Loudermilk, Luke Roessler as the young David, Jean Smart as Melanie, Edie Hennessey as Amy, and Aubrey Plaza as Lenny Busker, to mention a few.
"Legion" will premiere on Feb. 8, Wednesday, 10 p.m. EDT on Fox.
