'Law & Order: SVU' season 18 episode 7 spoilers: Will Carisi die?

(Facebook/lawandordersvu)Carisi will fear for his life in the next episode of "Law and Order: SVU."

One of Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) team members may die when "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" returns in January.

NBC has recently released the promo for the upcoming episode of the procedural and it is enough to give viewers a scary déjà vu. In the clip, Carisi (Peter Scanavino) and Benson are shown to be answering an urgent call. A woman is being held at gunpoint by a male suspect. The SVU must hurry before anything worse happens. As Carisi goes in the house, he finds the woman in distress, but he cannot find the hostage taker. As he rounds a corner, the agent will find himself staring at the barrel of a gun. The suspect is waiting for him and will not hesitate to shoot if Carisi tries anything suspicious.

Carisi's predicament is reminiscent of what happened to Mike (Andy Karl) last season. The agent also tried to save a woman from being killed. He was shot and then later died because of his injuries. Mike's death had huge repercussions to Benson and the entire SVU team. His father, Chief Dodds (Peter Gallagher), has yet to iron out his relationship with Benson. He holds her responsible for what happened to his kid. Will Benson lose another colleague and friend again? The fans are hoping it will not come to that. After all, many are still waiting for Carisi to start dating Rollins (Kelli Giddish).

"They've got a great relationship, that dynamic continues and we'll explore the possibility of that becoming something more. ... It is possible that it could morph into something more, but it's one of those relationships that would morph out of such a profound respect and friendship. We may see that and we may not [Laughs]. Right now, it's just two good friends, two coworkers that like and respect each other and have an easy, natural shorthand between them," showrunner Rick Eid said in a previous Entertainment Weekly interview.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" will return on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
