'Law & Order: SVU' season 17 episode 14 news: serial killer Greg Yates returns in crossover with 'Chicago P.D.'
The epic four-way crossover between "Law & Order: SVU," "Chicago Fire," "Chicago Med" and "Chicago PD" didn't push through. So fans would have to settle for an equally awesome "Chicago PD" and "Law & Order: SVU" crossover that sees the two law enforcement teams hunt down two notorious serial killers.
A synopsis for episode 14 of "Law & Order: SVU" season 17 reveals that "Chicago P.D." detectives Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Dawson (Jon Seda) will be joining forces with Lt. Olivia Benson(Mariska Hargitay) and her SVU team as they hunt down two escaped murderers, serial killers Greg Yates (Dallas Roberts) and Carl Rudnick (Jefferson Mays).
The trailer for the upcoming episode, titled "Nationwide Manhunt," hints at how dire the situation is. The clip starts with the police giving a press conference to announce that 2 serial killers – Gregory Yates and Carl Rudnick - have escaped and a multi-state manhunt is underway. This is followed by scenes of the police manning check points, a glimpse of the 2 serial killers, Benson and her team on the hunt and a police officer discovering a poster that was used to hide a break in the wall.
Benson addresses the task force and describes the 2 escapees as intelligent, charming and without conscience. The clip also shows Yates attacking someone, a woman who appears to have been killed while another woman is found inside a car trunk. The clip ends with Lindsay demanding to know where Yates is while Dawson calls for another detective.
The two-part crossover will culminate in episode 14 of "Chicago P.D." season 3. The culminating episode, titled "The Song of Gregory Williams Yates," will see Benson and Fin (Ice-T) catch a plane to Chicago when a triple homicide is suspected to be the work of the escaped killer.
The serial killer's return had been revealed several months ago, with "Chicago P.D.'s" showrunner Matt Olmstead hinting to The Hollywood Reporter that Yates' story will end in Chicago.
"I don't like his odds, in terms of escaping one more time the clutches of P.D. - and Lindsay in particular," Olmstead explained.
The "Law & Order: SVU" and "Chicago P.D." crossover is set to be aired on Feb. 10 on NBC.
