'Law and Order: SVU' season 17 spoilers: Dodds shot during a hostage crisis in episode 23; will someone die?

The two-part finale of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 17 saw the team facing hostilities from their fellow police officers. But will the SVU's quest to make a corrections officer face justice result in the death of one of their own?
The first of the two-episode story arc saw Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), the SVU team, and ADA Rafael Barba (Raul Esparza) investigating allegations that Corrections Officer Gary Munson (Brad Garrett) has repeatedly raped female inmates at Rikers. The fallout from the case continues in episode 23 when Munson and his union take drastic actions that put the lives of Barba and the SVU team in danger.
The trailer for the finale, "Heartfelt Passages," teases fans at the dangerous circumstances Benson and her team find themselves in. The short clip unfolds with Olivia talking to a woman in the ladies' room. She advises the woman that she should leave before her husband returns. Viewers are then given a glimpse of her husband and it is Munson, the Corrections Officer from the previous episode.
The next scene shows Olivia confirming if "he's inside the house now" as the woman from earlier tries to casually talk to the SVU head. Her husband is seen sitting in the living room with their two daughters. The SVU team discusses the case and Fin (Ice-T) says that someone should get the woman out of the house. That someone turns out to be Sergeant Mike Dodds (Andy Karl), who's seen in the woman's home, while his team, along with other police units, surround the house. The woman is taken hostage by Munson, who points a gun at Dodds and tells him to walk out of the house if he wants to live. The detective refuses and says they should all walk out together.
The latter part of the clip shows Olivia giving the order to go into the house as Munson tells Dodds he's an idiot. A gunshot is then heard. Olivia rushes into the room, reporting that an officer is done. Deputy Chief William Dodds (Peter Gallagher) is seen telling his son to "stay with me." The clip ends with the sergeant in the hospital and Olivia telling the older Dodds that she's sorry as she hugs him.
Losing the younger Dodds at this point would be such a tragedy, as the young man had recently passed the bar exam and had such big plans for the future. However, he's not the only one who might be leaving the team. There are reports that Fin will also be evaluating his life and career, especially now that he's set to become a grandfather.
Fans should not miss the epic finale of "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 when it airs on May 25 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
