'Kung Fu Panda 3' release date, spoilers, news: Po to face Kai aka The Collector

DreamWorks made a great decision in giving the green light for the third installment of "Kung Fu Panda." The movie, "Kung Fu Panda 3," is slated for be released on Jan. 29, 2017 in China and in the United States. Along with the trailer released for the film, there have been numerous spoilers going around.

The hit animated film centering around Po (Jack Black) and the Furious Five will again feature the martial arts experts fighting the powerful returning villain Kai (J.K. Simmons), also known as "The Collector." Kai has broken free from the spirit realm, where he was banished a long time ago, and is said to have an evil spirit in him. He has the ability to steal the Kung Fu powers of those he defeats in battle, according to Wikia. The villain seems to have control over the Kung Fu masters who are in jade figures.

Po's long-lost father, Li Shan (Bryan Cranston) will be part of the third film as well. He will be looking for his lost son. In the trailer released, the two meet happily. Li Shan will bring Po to a secret village, where pandas are living peacefully and happily after surviving the attack of Lord Shen. Po is going to become a Kung Fu teacher who will train his fellow pandas in the way of a Kung Fu master for protection.

Along with Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu and David Cross will reprise their roles as Master Tigress, Master Monkey, Master Mantis, Master Viper and Master Crane, respectively--members of the Furious Five. Dustin Hoffman will also return to play Master Shifu in the upcoming film.

"Kung Fu Panda" is no doubt a gold mine of a franchise. The first movie garnered $631 million worldwide in 2008 and "Kung Fu Panda 2" earned $665 million in 2011. It can be expected that "Kung Fu Panda 3" will beat the previous two films at the box office.
