One of the highest grossing films of 2015 is Universal's "Jurassic World," which garnered $1.6 billion worldwide and won many awards. Due to its immense success, the announcement of "Jurassic World 2" was not surprising at all.

The second film will be released in the U.K. on June 7, 2018 and in the U.S. on June 22, 2018. The film will be produced by Frank Marshall, with the script being written by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. Trevorrow also directed the first film and co-wrote its screeplay. He will be joined by Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg as executive producers. Filming will begin in 2017.

The two leads, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, will be back to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively. However, according to a report from Movie News Guide last September, Howard may be taking over as the lead protagonist, with Pratt playing second-in-command.

Moviegoers should also expect a big change in the plot for the upcoming sequel. The film will offer more than just dinosaurs in theme parks, as humans will be conducting more scientific experiments to enhance the gigantic creatures. It will also reportedly be based on the original movie, Jurassic Park (1993). Rumors indicate that the sequel will feature weaponized dinosaurs, including the fierce velociraptors, which was what they were afraid of in the first "Jurassic World" movie. However, there's also the possibility of having well-trained dinosaurs siding with humans.

B.D. Wong has reportedly expressed his interest in reprising his role as Dr. Henry Wu. If fans can recall, Wong's character mentioned in the first film that "we're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur." The statement certainly supports the ongoing rumors spreading about the sequel's plot. But since these are just rumors, fans will just have to wait until more details are revealed.
