"Jurassic World" was a box office-shattering success last year and fans can barely wait for the film's sequel. What started as an idea in 1993 has become a massive worldwide phenomenon that's ready to take on more stories.

With a release date scheduled and a cast already in tow, speculations are now rampantly focusing on the details of its plot. Although official plot information about "Jurassic World 2" is scarce, several rumors have been circulating online.

Colin Trevorrow, who directed and co-wrote the first film, spoke to Comingsoon last year and revealed the inspiration of the "Jurassic World" trilogy. The director shared that a quote from Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) from "Jurassic Park" was the basis of it all.

"You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you wanna sell it."

Trevorrow also noted that given the success of the first film, the second film now has more room to explore the idea of man and dinosaurs co-existing in one place. He thoroughly believes that "bigger and better dinosaurs" aren't the way to go; rather, it's about "a much larger story about our relationship with these animals."

Additionally, the sequel will not recycle the age-old trope of dinosaurs running around and chasing people. Trevorrow revealed to Wired that a theme park will not be involved in the sequel and that entertainment is not the sole purpose of these creatures.

The sequel might also feature other corporations or people being able to make dinosaurs. Trevorrow hinted at this when he shared that this might be expounded on in the film.

Other rumors are saying that a war between dinosaurs and reptiles is possible. The reptiles will reportedly be weaponized, as was intended by the antagonistic Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio) in the first film, which will result in a conflict.

"Jurassic World 2" is slated to be released on June 22, 2018.
