'John Wick 2' updates: Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare and Riccardo Scamarcio coming to the cast; fans can expect more gun-fu

The sleeper hit "John Wick" is back for a second round. While the storyline is a tightly guarded secret, fan favorites like John Leguizamo and Ian McShane are confirmed to be back. The sequel will also introduce new faces like Ruby Rose, Peter Stormare and Riccardo Scamarcio are also onboard.
Keanu Reeves fans would be happy to know that production for "John Wick 2" has already started in New York. Reeves being back to reprise his role as the mythical assassin is a no-brainer, but he's not the only one from the original movie's who's set to return.
Ian McShane was previously announced to be back as Continental Hotel owner Winston, along with Lance Reddick, who played Charon, the ever reliable concierge. Other favorites like John Leguizamo and Tom Sadowski are also onboard. The former portrayed Aurelio, the chop shop owner while the latter played the policeman Jimmy. Bridget Moynahan is also reportedly returning as John's late wife, Helen, and she will undoubtedly appear in flashbacks.
The sequel will also be adding new faces to the "John Wick" universe. According to "Deadline," "Orange is the New Black's" breakout star Ruby Rose, "Burnt's" Riccardo Scamarcio and character actor Peter Stormare are confirmed to have joined the cast. There's no news on who their characters are but most fans assume they're assassins out to take down John.
Oscar winner Common was the first new cast member to be announced and according to reports, the rapper will be playing the film's main villain – the chief of security of a female crime boss.
Now considered as a classic action movie, "John Wick" revolved around the character's quest for vengeance after Iosef (Alfie Allen), the son of his former associate, stole his car and killed his puppy Daisy, Helen's last gift.
The plot for "John Wick 2" is still sketchy, but in a "Collider" article, Reeves teased that the underlying theme for the sequel is John's struggle to come to terms with the two sides of his personality – the unmatched assassin and the widower.
While the storyline is still a secret, the action component of the film is no mystery as fans will reportedly see more "gun-fu" in the sequel. "The Matrix" star has even studied more gun-fu techniques, which is essentially judo and jujitsu combined with weapons training.
A release date for "John Wick 2" has not been set but it's expected to hit theaters in 2016.
