Japanese airline, All Nippon Airways (ANA), recently unveiled the first official "Star Wars" aircraft. During the special event held last Sept. 12, ANA revealed a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that had been designed and painted like the droid, R2-D2.

Before the R2-D2 ANA jet was unveiled, "Star Wars" music blasted from the speakers and Storm Troopers guarded the hangar door. Then, as the jet was revealed, C-3PO greeted the plane, along with flight attendants and Boeing and ANA executives. The jet's revelation also merited cheers from fans in the crowd.

The R2-D2 ANA jet will begin flying on Oct. 18 with a flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Vancouver, Canada. By mid-October to November, the R2-D2 jet is scheduled to fly from Tokyo's Narita Airport to San Jose, California. Then, by December, the aircraft is expected to fly out to several locations including Seattle, Sydney, Jakarta, Beijing, Munich and Paris.

The R2-D2 jet isn't the only "Star Wars" jet scheduled to fly the skies. ANA will unveil two more jets.

The second will be a Boeing 777-300ER wide body jet and it will be painted like the new "Star Wars" droid, BB-8. BB-8 will make its cinematic debut in the forthcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie scheduled to be released in December.

The BB-8 ANA jet is scheduled to take off by spring of 2016. It will fly primarily on North American routes.

Finally, the third jet would be a Boeing 767-300 decorated with both droids, R2-D2 and BB-8. The "Star Wars" droid jet is scheduled to take off by winter 2015 but is only scheduled for domestic flights in Japan.

The "Star Wars" themed jets are part of ANA's "Star Wars" Project, which they launched last April, after signing a five-year promotional deal with The Walt Disney Company. Disney currently owns the rights to "Star Wars."

Aside from the external decorations of the aircrafts, ANA will also incorporate "Star Wars" inspired headrest covers, paper napkins and cups inside the planes. All six "Star Wars movies will also be available as in-flight entertainment.
