iPad Pro 9.7 vs 12.9-inch iPad Pro comparison: Bigger device edges out its sibling with speed

With the recent reveal of the smaller iPad Pro, Apple is hoping that it can take on similar-sized rivals in the market. However, with the bigger iPad Pro still bringing in a good amount of sales for the company, it is likely that these two siblings are going to become major competitors, and this is how they fare in a face-off.

Design

In terms of design, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro looks and feels like its bigger sibling, which has a 12.9-inch display. Both these devices have full metal bodies and come with beautifully rounded corners that give them a premium look and feel, which is often associated with devices created by Apple. There is a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button of both devices, and they have a Smart Connector so that the Smart Keyboard can be attached to convert them into laptops. As for colors, the smaller iPad Pro comes in silver, gray, gold, and rose gold, and the bigger version comes in silver, gray, and gold. Finally, both tablets can be used with the Apple Pencil stylus.

Display

There is an IPS LCD display measuring 12.9 inches on the bigger iPad Pro and it has a resolution of 2048 x 2732 pixels and density of 264 pixels per inch. The display on the smaller iPad Pro not suprinsingly measures 9.7 inches and it is an IPS LCD version with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and density of 264 pixels per inch.

Hardware

When it comes to hardware, the iPad Pro 9.7 is slower as it has an Apple A9X chipset coupled with a dual core CPU that is clocked at 2.16 GHz and a PowerVR Series 7 GPU. The iPad Pro 12.9 has an Apple A9X chipset and it is coupled with a dual core CPU clocked at 2.26 GHz and a PowerVR Series 7 GPU.

Memory

Both do not have memory slots so external storage cannot be added. As for RAM, the iPad Pro 12.9 comes with 4 GB on board, while the iPad Pro 9.7 comes with 2 GB.

Camera

The main rear camera on the iPad Pro 12.9-inch model is an 8-megapixel version, while the iPad Pro 9.7 has a 12-megapixel camera.

Price

Without the keyboard, the starting model of the iPad Pro 12.9 costs $799, while the iPad Pro 9.7 costs $599.
