iMac 2016 release date, specs rumors: Next-generation iMac a no-show at Apple event

(Apple)The iMac 2016 was a no-show at the recent Apple event.

Apple's October event has come and gone. And while many fans were delighted with the introduction of a new laptop, others were left disappointed when the Cupertino-based tech giant failed to release any information about the iMac 2016.

This isn't the first time that Apple has remained mum on the iMac 2016 at a major event. Last month, fans expected the company to reveal some details about the next-generation iMac at the iPhone 7 event. But considering that it was an event focused mainly on the new smartphone, it was understandable that the iMac 2016 wouldn't take center stage. But the recently concluded "Hello Again" event only unveiled the new MacBook Pro, so fans were once again left hanging, despite rumors saying that October would be the month of release.

So far, speculations are rife that the upcoming iMac will not be too different from the previous model, with only a few changes being made. Even though Intel has recently released its new Kaby Lake processor, it is widely believed that the new iMac will not be sporting the chip under the hood. However, there is talk of the macOS Sierra powering the system when the iMac 2016 arrives.

Another popular theory is that the iMac 2016 will come with virtual reality (VR) support. Additionally, augmented reality is also a viable option. This is understandable since the gaming world is rapidly adapting to new technology, which happens to feature both virtual and augmented reality at the forefront. Augmented reality recently experienced a boom when Niantic Labs released their popular mobile game, "Pokemon GO." VR, on the other hand, is getting a lot more buzz, with companies releasing their own version of VR consoles left and right.

Of course, in order to adapt to the gaming world, the iMac 2016 will need the right hardware. There is also talk of AMD Polaris graphics card making it to the unit, as well as an innovative 5K display.

However, since these are just rumors, readers should take this news with a grain of salt.
