HTC Vive release date, price news: Preorders for the Consumer Version of the VR headset now up with a price tag of $800

The much awaited virtual reality headset from "Counter Strike: Global Offensive" and "Dota 2" developer, Valve, and mobile manufacturer HTC, dubbed the HTC Vive, is now up for preorder on the device's official website.

For the price of $800, fans who preordered the HTC Vive will get to receive the headset, two "lighthouse" base stations to track the wearer's movement, two wireless controllers, a pair of Vive earbuds, and a link box that is used to connect the headset to the user's PC, as posted by the company on their blog.

Those who preordered the headset will also get to receive the two games "Job Simulator" from developer Owlchemy Labs, and "Fantastic Contraption" by the collaborative effort of the two gaming studios, Northway Games and Radical Games.

The price for the HTC Vive is no doubt much higher compared to other popular VR headset in the market today that is specifically created for the PC, the Oculus Rift, which has a selling retail price of $600. However, despite this fact, it seems like some users still prefer the Vive over the Rift, and the orders for the former are now coming in fast.

According to the latest tweet coming from HTC VR's Shen Ye, the company has now sold more than 15,000 units of Vive in just less than 10 minutes, probably after they have opened and made the preorder available on their website.

As for the availability of the Vive, the blog post from the company had revealed that the shipment for the headset will begin starting April 2016, as well as the commercial release for it.

However, it appears like HTC will not entirely focus on gaming and entertainment for the Vive as the company is also planning to develop the headset for other purposes like retail, education, design, healthcare, and even for automotive, as said on their blog.
