HTC smartwatch release date update: Set to kick up a storm when it launches
Before MWC 2016 kicked off, there were rumors that HTC would be announcing the arrival of a new smartwatch in April. However, there was very little additional information available about the device. But that changed with the CEO of the company revealing that it would shake up the industry.
Right now, all eyes are turned to the release date of the flagship smartphone from HTC, which is named the One M10, but this has not stopped people from also wondering when the company's smartwatch will be arriving. However, attention has quickly turned to the features on the device as the CEO of HTC, Cher Wang, announced that it would "turn the industry on to its head." Reporting on the statement made by Wang during MWC 2016, Android Headlines states that it will take a lot for the HTC smartwatch to be live up to the hype and shake up the industry.
Currently, the smartwatch industry is led by the Apple Watch, which has sold several million devices and is well ahead of its nearest rival, the Gear S2. In fact, the best performing Android watch is the Huawei Watch, and the HTC smartwatch will have to beat all its rivals and do much more to provide any decent competition to the Apple Watch.
HTC also does not have the best track record in creating top of the line smartphones over the past few years and it has struggled with weak demand for the HTC One M9, which was released last year. However, with the upcoming smartwatch, it seems that the company is expecting a big turnaround and it is likely that it will be positioned as competitors to the offerings from Samsung, which includes the Gear S2 that runs on Tizen. As for the release date of the wearable, there has been no word on it so far but it is rumored to arrive sometime during April and be named the HTC One Smartwatch.
