Houston Rockets free agency, trade rumors 2016: Sergio Llull soon heading to the NBA?

It looks like the Houston Rockets have a chance to land an international backcourt piece in the 2017-18 National Basketball Association (NBA) season as they are reportedly still eyeing Spanish star Sergio Llull.

Llull is yet to play in the NBA although he was a second-round pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2009 draft.

In ESPN's report, it was mentioned that the Rockets bought Llull's rights from the Nuggets for $2.25 million and they have already attempted to bring him to the NBA a number of times. Last year was perhaps the closest when he was offered a $28 million contract.

Once Llull joins the Rockets, it is expected that he will quickly have an impact on the team. Even if he has not stepped on an NBA court, the 28-year-old is a veteran of the game. He is a familiar face and a mainstay in Spain's national team and has achieved numerous feats representing his motherland.

Aside from this, Llull has also garnered awards seeing action for leagues in Spain and Europe, although he made a name for himself in the professional scene suiting up for Real Madrid, which remains to be his ball club until today.

In Llull's current contract with Real Madrid, there is an opt-out clause if ever he wants to test himself in the NBA.

When Llull finally heads to Houston, he is likely to be used as a point guard but he can also do the duties at the no. 2 position which is a plus for any squad. If this is the case, then he is going to compete with Patrick Beverley for the starting job at no. 1. Or to ease the adjustment process into the NBA, Mike D'Antoni (if he remains head coach) may group him with the reserves which will lessen the pressure. This may also be done to have quality reinforcement coming off the bench.
