'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' cast news, update: Ego's appearance in the film is different from the comic books

"Guardians of the Galaxy" fans now have a first look at Kurt Russell's character, Ego the Living Planet. Unlike the comic books, Ego has been personified in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

(Facebook/guardiansofthegalaxy)"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will premiere on May 5, 2017.

Ego the Living Planet is depicted as an actual planet in the comic books, but in the James Gunn-directed film, Ego will feature more human-like traits. Ego's look in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" was teased through Funko Pop! And Dorbz's latest figurines of the character.

Prior to this, the character's wardrobe was also revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con last year. Like what was teased last year, the figurines showed Ego as a bearded man dressed in boots and a cape.

It is to be noted that Ego the Living Planet is the father of Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), and they will finally meet in the film sequel.

Other family issues that will be brought forth in the film include Nebula, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Thanos' (Josh Brolin) daughter. Nebula, who is portrayed by Karen Gillan, will be getting quite the attention in the film, when her backstory will be featured. The actress believes that fans will get to understand her character more when the film explores the crazy drama in her family.

From the first film alone, fans are able to tell that Nebula has some daddy issues. But according to the actress, there's so much more to that.

"I think we might even feel a tinge of sympathy towards Nebula this time, because we really start to see the emotional crack in her character," Gillan told TheWrap.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" premieres this May 5. Fans of Marvel's film series should expect to see the original cast members, Christ Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, to reprise their roles.
