With millions hooked on the game, it's no wonder that gamers lap up any news or speculation about "Grand Theft Auto." And with so much at stake, Rockstar has its work cut out for them if they want to continue their winning streak. This has led to numerous rumours regarding the highly-anticipated "GTA 6."

Rockstar was able to lay down some pretty significant ground with the introduction of multiple characters for "GTA 5's" single-player story mode. Being able to control three distinct characters automatically ensured that the game had a broader scope and appeal while also opening the door for future installations of the title.

The game developer has not made any formal announcement regarding "GTA 6," but one rumour that has surfaced about the game is that it will also take advantage of the multiple-character environment. While there are admittedly gamers who were not too fond of the numerous characters and preferred to have just one protagonist, but having more than one character did add a new dimension to the game.

Another rumour that supports the first one is that Rockstar will be introducing a female protagonist in the game's next installation. If this turns out to be true, it will be a big deviation from the male-dominated world of racing games and can be a big step in equalizing the industry. There have even been reports from sites like Neurogadget as to who will be voicing the female GTA character - Eva Mendes. The rumours of the actress' involvement in "GTA 6" have been going on for a while now, although Mendes has not made any comments about the issue.

Aside from the speculated protagonists, there are also rumblings that Rockstar's next "GTA" title will have a mammoth multi-map universe. Reports have mentioned that the game's map might include the whole U.S. However, it's more than likely that it will just be composed of maps from previous GTA titles.

"GTA 6" is rumoured to be released by 2018. However, the lack of news from the developers and the rumoured features are causing some gamers to temper their expectations and resign themselves for a release date as late as 2019.
