'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 news: Old Bailey will be putting up a fight to win Chief of Surgery job
There is no doubt that when the hit ABC series, "Grey's Anatomy," returns this fall, there will be big changes in store both for the doctors and their fans. One big change that fans can expect to see is the return of a different and determined Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson).
When "Grey's Anatomy" started, Bailey was this tough, omniscient presence who was notoriously tough on interns but who was also someone who clearly knew what she was doing. But her drive and status in the hospital (and in the series) seems to have diminished as she went through several personal dilemmas that appeared to have eroded her self-confidence.
But Bailey's desire and determination to get the coveted Chief of Surgery title next season will result in the old, tough Bailey making an appearance. Wilson gave an insight on her character's future in a recent interview and said that audiences are "going to see some classic Bailey stuff, some classic Bailey behavior," including a return of her self-confidence.
"This is a really important step for her, just as important as getting on the board," the actress explains. "I think being the chief is kind of the pinnacle of her career."
Aside from Bailey, another major character that will undeniably undergo big changes next season is Meredith Grey. Aside from the character learning to move on from her husband, Derek Shepherd's, tragic demise, it has been rumored that Meredith's Alzheimer's will start making its presence felt. This is sadly in tune with the reports that the actress playing the character, Ellen Pompeo, will be leaving the show after this season.
Season 12's first episode is reportedly titled "Sledgehammer" and speculations on what it means have been making the rounds, with fans worried that the episode might be taking a sledgehammer to their emotions by killing off another favorite character.
The next season of "Grey's Anatomy" is set to make its return on Sept. 24, 2015.
