When it comes to online modes, "Grand Theft Auto V Online" has managed to surpass others and earn its developer, Rockstar Games, around $500 million dollars. This online mode is even scheduled to get an important free DLC named "Further Adventures in Finance and Felony" soon. But all this is going to be short-lived as the developer has hinted that it will ultimately be retired.

The news that "Grand Theft Auto V Online" is not going to be a permanent fixture emerged when Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two which owns Rockstar Games, stated that it will eventually be allowed to die as content dries up. However, given that "Grand Theft Auto V Online" has turned out to be a major success so far and is frequently mentioned in financial reports as a money spinner, it is likely that its retirement is only going to happen sometime in the far future.

Meanwhile, gamers who have been using the Shark Card system for "Grand Theft Auto V Online" and its microtransactions have been inadvertently fuelling the online mode. With $500 million dollars in revenue earned via this system so far, it has enabled Rockstar to bring out a lot of free content. One of these is the huge "Further Adventures in Finance and Felony" DLC which will give gamers the ability to build and improve their illegal empire. This particular update, which releases on June 7, is being described as the biggest since the release of "Heists".

Ultimately, it is thought that by stopping the work on "Grand Theft Auto V Online," Rockstar will be able to focus on the next game in the franchise, which is expected to be ""Grand Theft Auto 6." Also, even though the developer has not made public any details about the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, many are expecting more news about it will arrive during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. Many gamers are also hoping that the developer will announce details about other games, such as the much-awaited "Red Dead Redemption 2," in the upcoming event.
