'Gotham' season 2 spoilers: Bruce becomes Batman at dawn of the new villains
San Diego's Comic-Con was a flurry of activity as various cast and crew members from multifarious TV shows and movies took to stage to tease fans. "Gotham" was certainly not left out as showrunner Bruno Heller addressed questions alongside his roster of talented stars that included handsome Ben McKenzie, David Mazouz and Donal Logue.
Heller teased the rise of new villains and heroes as "Gotham" enters its sophomore season on Fox this fall, reports Hypable. "It's very much about the transition from old school mafia-type villainy to the grandiose, grotesque, Gothic villainy that Gotham is slowly moving towards. The crimes are grander, the villains are more large scale and theatrical. Monsters start to come out of the woodwork," the executive producer explained.
Gotham city will plunge into chaos as these new, more menacing villains wreak havoc. Moreover, these new antagonists will challenge The Penguin repeatedly, who emerged as the mob boss of the city. Fans may recall that towards the end of season one, The Penguin was the last man standing and while he does enjoy the Iron Throne, there will be ample challengers looking to usurp him from his coveted position.
And as new villains emerge in Gotham city, so will new heroes. However, fans should not hold their breaths to see a 14-year-old Batman fighting the streets since the good guys will certainly not be masked vigilantes.
Ben McKenzie, who plays Jim Gordon, shared, "As the villains rise, there's an arms race, and the good guys have to increase their force as well. There'll be new heroes introduced," reports TVLine.
Cinema Blend provided a list of villains for the upcoming season that includes Clayface, Mad Hatter, Tigress, Mr. Freeze and Calendar Man. Moreover, season two of "Gotham" will focus on Bruce Wayne's transition into Batman. Alfred and Bruce also transition into a more adult relationship born out of mutual respect and understanding.
Catch "Gotham" season two on Sept. 21, 2015 on Fox.
