Fans of "Girl Meets World" are anxiously waiting for Disney to announce a fourth season for the show. But rumor has it that the network is eyeing a recast — bringing in younger actresses to replace Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter.

Blanchard and Carpenter, who respectively portray best friends Riley and Maya, have been the heart of the show since the very beginning. Replacing them would mean a drop in ratings and fan following, but Disney has yet to deny the claims. It has been said that the network is in search for younger stars, leading to rumors that "Girl Meets World" may end up getting canceled altogether and being replaced with a new show.

It was previously reported that Blanchard has been quite vocal about wanting to renew the show for a fourth season. The actress took to her Twitter account to encourage her fans to continue supporting the show in hopes that Disney will order a renewal.

Carpenter, on the other hand, has been busy with her Evolution Tour. The actress/singer already has a second album out and began her tour in Nashville. Blanchard also has other projects lined up and recently expressed her desire to author a book.

"I found myself not being able to put something in my diary without thinking, 'Maybe if this is good enough, I'll publish it,'" Blanchard said.

If Disney ultimately decides to cancel the series, fans are hoping that a different network will pick it up. Freeform is a popular choice, especially since the show is poised to evolve into depicting more mature content. Riley and Maya are in high school now, which means topics like alcohol, sex, and drugs are inevitable. Fans of the show have often said that they relate to the characters very well and that "Girl Meets World" is a good model for young girls everywhere.

So far, though, nothing has been officially confirmed. Fans should take this news with a grain of salt for now. In the meantime, "Girl Meets World" is still going to air season 3 episodes until early 2017.
