Galaxy S6 Edge Plus vs Huawei Mate 8: metal bodied Mate 8 is sturdier

One of the most beautiful smartphones of the year is the Galaxy S6 Edge from Samsung but others with more traditional design and metal bodies have cropped up as challengers and the Huawei Mate 8 is one of them. Here is how these two compare in a face off.

Design

When it comes to design the Mate 8 is the studier option as it has a full metal body and rounded corners. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel of the device which has premium look and feel and it comes in four colors gold, silver, brown and gray. As for the S6 Edge from Samsung it has jaw dropping good looks thanks to its screen which has dual curved edges flowing over its right and left side. One of these edges can be customized to display five important contacts, five apps, notifications and a night clock. However, its build consists of a metal frame and gorilla Glass 4 on its back and so it's more likely to break when dropped. There is a fingerprint scanner on the device and it comes in gold, black, silver and white.

Display

Here the Super AMOLED screen of S6 Edge provides much better quality and it measures 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 518 pixels per inch. As for the Mate 8 it has a LCD screen that is bigger and it measures 6.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 368 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is a HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset on the Mate 8 and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. As for the S6 Edge it has an Exynos 7420 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU and Mali-T760MP8 GPU.

Memory

With the S6 Edge having no memory slot there is no possibility of external storage being added while the Mate 8 supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the S6 Edge has 4 GB onboard and the Mate 8 has either 3 GB or 4 GB.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus has a price tag of $299 with a two year contract, while the Huawei Mate 8 with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage costs $470 unlocked.
