'Final Fantasy 15' release news: reversible box art; Western cover differs from Japanese one

(Facebook/ffxv)"Final Fantasy XV" will have reversible box art.

Fans of the "Final Fantasy" franchise won't have to wait much longer as the latest installment is set to arrive this September. With this, a new box art has been revealed. And while the box art for "Final Fantasy XV" was unveiled at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last month, there have been a few changes since then.

According to the Square Enix blog, the changes made were a direct result of the Business Division 2 Art Team pitching in. The blog also showcased the final box art that would be featured on the cover of Western copies of the game. Moreover, it went on to reveal that the box art would be reversible so that fans can have two options to choose from.

The first box art sees the main characters of the game doing their own respective things. Dramatically posed and wielding weapons, the four characters take the foreground of the cover. Meanwhile, the "shadowy figures" featured in the background are also striking. The blog did not go into detail about these figures, opting not to spoil anything for avid fans. However, it did reveal that "they are extremely important to both 'KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV' and 'FINAL FANTASY XV.'"

On the other side of the cover is the classic logo of the "Final Fantasy" title plastered at the center of a black background. The art is definitely striking in its simplicity.

However, it looks like Japan will feature a different cover art from the one that will be released in North America. A Japanese Amazon listing shows the four characters — one in a car — with their backs turned from the camera. There is a long road that disappears into the distance, juxtaposed with the beauty of a night sky and the "Final Fantasy" logo at the top center.

The game is set to come in two editions: the standard edition that will cost $59.99 and a Deluxe Edition valued at $89.99. The Deluxe Edition will include a steelbook, a blu-ray copy of "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV," and a DLC.

"Final Fantasy XV" will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Sept. 30, Friday.
