Fans have wanted a remake of "Final Fantasy VII" for years, and now they are finally getting their wish. And ito make things even sweeter, Square Enix has also announced that it will also come out with HD remakes of some of their stronger games.

News of a remake had been going on for years, but Square Enix had repeatedly insisted it won't be happening. But now the game developer appears to have had a change of heart and the "Final Fantasy VII" remake was officially announced on June 15 during the E3.

According to game director Tetsuya Nomura, doing the remake was prompted by the desire to do the project with the original development team before they all got to old. He also cited their desire to make the PlayStation 4 more popular in Japan, and a game like this could be the trick.

It's also been reported that Square Enix would also be giving the same treatment to its other popular games. Aside from the "Final Fantasy" series, the company is also known for the "Dragon Quest" and "Tomb Raider" series.

"Ars Technica" reported that Square Enix laid out its plans for the year in a report to its shareholders. In the report, the company outlined how it will revamp some of its older games so it will run on the newer consoles. The developer also plans to take it a step further and start working on remakes of said games so it will also run on mobile devices and maybe even on virtual reality platforms.

The report also stated that Square Enix wants their fans to "relish reliving past experiences with a freshness that only the latest in technology can provide." At the same time, they also want to introduce these legendary games to a new generation of gamers.

But Square Enix was also quick to assure gamers that it will also continue to develop and come out with new games.

When the long awaited "Final Fantasy VII" remake will come out is still unknown, but there are reports that 2017 will be the ideal year to release it as the game will be celebrating its 20th anniversary then.
