'Fear the Walking Dead' season 2 premiere spoilers: Zombies cannot swim
While the survivors in season 2 will spend much of their time in the ocean aboard a boat, the equally important zombies will not be seen treading the waters.
Amid speculations of what zombies can and cannot do, Dave Erickson revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that the undead cannot swim. He said, "Zombies can wade and that's something we experimented with in the first couple episodes; it has a lot to do with decomposition and gas buildup in the body."
Despite teasers and trailers pointing at the season spending atleast 90 percent of its time in the ocean, Erickson shared, "We are going to go to land and we are going to have a balance between sea and land." He said that while being in the water allows for the characters to survive, they will "realize quickly that the dangers on the ocean are equal to if not greater than the dangers on land. And that's going to put us in a place where we're stuck between the two."
Asked whether a time jump is happening, Erickson answered, "It's not going to be a dramatic jump." He explained that prior to the characters boarding the vessel, residues of what happened in Los Angeles will be tackled.
Perhaps this is also what lead actress Kim Dickens meant when she told Independent that "In a way, season one was pre-apocalyptic; the beginning of society's downfall. We begin season two, I think, within hours of season one's ending and it catches fire pretty quickly."
Dickens also shared that in the upcoming season, viewers will see characters evolve the way people would at the face of such adversity. There will be emotional struggles as the survivors try to hold on to morality and humanity.
The first season was a very successful spin-off to the equally successful mother series "The Walking Dead," which is nearing its sixth season's end.
"Fear the Walking Dead" premieres on April 10 on AMC.
