'Entourage' movie reboot borrows formula of TV series
Adam Grenier, the star of the film "Entourage", which is due to hit theatres this week is predicting that the movie will find favor with both fans of the show and those who never saw it. Over the past week, this has proven to be partially true with renewed interest in the movie, but it has also been clear that people no longer believe the series and the movie have any critical value.
Even though Grenier appeared to be positive about the movie's chances at the box office this weekend, it is clear that since the first episode of Entourage aired on HBO over 11 years ago the world has changed substantially. This has not impacted the characters in the movie as the gang that formed around movie star Vince Chase played by Grenier are up to their old tricks.
The movie opens with Vince still chasing women after his marriage which took place in the last episode of the series only lasted for nine days. With Vince separated from his wife, the gang of his "bros" then get together and embark on a series of parties filled with as sex and drugs. Along with Vince for the ride are his brother Johnny played by Kevin Dillon, Eric played by Kevin Connolly, Ari played by Jeremy Piven and Turtle played by Jerry Ferrara. As for the script it revolves around Ari appointing Vince as the director and star of a blockbuster and how things go wrong after that.
The New York Post states that the film revolves around the Vince and his gang of aging boys and their toys which now consists of yachts and helicopters. There are also going to be a host of cameos from actors in the film and one of them involves Armie Hammer confronting Vince when he is on a date with his current girlfriend Emily Ratajkowski.
With "Entourage" bringing back more of the same formula which saw it get modest critical acclaim in its initial seasons, the cast and the creators behind the film are hoping that fans will be drawn to theatres. As for others who ended up hating the show and panned it for having very little plot and one dimensional characters, they are unsurprisingly planning on boycotting the movie.
