Fox's "Empire" season 2 is nearing its season finale with lots of drama and big reveals happening. One of the biggest twists of the show happened in the last episode where Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) got shot and wounded fatally by Freda Gatz (Bre-z) during the American Sound Awards. The episode ended with viewers left wondering whether he will survive it or not.

In episode 17, titled "Rise by Sin," of "Empire" season 2, Gatz tried to shoot Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) after finding out that he had something to do with the death of her father, Frank Gathers (Chris Rock). However, Jamal saw it coming and shielded his father and took the bullet for him.

After the shooting, Jamal was seen being rushed to the hospital and still conscious but apparently in much pain because of the gunshot wound he sustained. While in the emergency room, the Lyon family awaits with fear and anticipation about his condition. However, a sound, which sounded like a flatline, was heard from the emergency room.

The promo trailer for episode 18, which is also the season finale, shows Lucious confronting Gatz, who is already donning the orange prison garb, and asking her why she tried to shoot him. Gatz answered that he already knows why she did what she did.

In another scene, Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) is seen punching Anika (Grace Gealey) in the face and asking her why she pushed her down the stairs, which happened in the middle of season 2.

The promo also shows Lucious and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) in what seems to be a tender moment with Lucious telling Cookie that he should have never let her go. There are some speculations that Lucious might finally propose to Cookie.

"Empire" episode 18, titled "Past is Prologue," airs on Wednesday, May 18 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
