'Emerald City' season 2 renewal updates: NBC has yet to announce official plans for show's second season
While NBC's "Emerald City" was visually attractive on television, it lacked the extra kick in its content that is enough to keep initial viewers to stay tuned every week during its 10-episode run. Reports revealed that ratings in its weekly episodes continued to decline as the story progressed. NBC continues to be quiet about the possibility of renewing the series for a second season.
In spite of director Tarsem Singh's abilities that gave the TV series a unique identity, it did not appeal as much to viewers as show executives hoped. According to sources, a viewership of under 3 million is probably not enough reason for a network to take another risk at what was initially intended to be a hit TV series. The series concluded season 1 last March 3 with the episode titled "There's No Place Like Home," which was written by David Schulner and Josh Carlebach.
Meanwhile, executive producers Shaun Cassidy and David Schulner are more than willing to make a second season for the TV series if NBC commissions them to do so, according to several reports. Cassidy and Schulner expressed their deep gratitude for having been given the opportunity to create "Emerald City" a note published by Entertainment Weekly.
"Should NBC choose to make another limited series based on Baum's characters, David and I would welcome the opportunity. If not, know that this has been one of the most fulfilling experiences either of us has enjoyed, and we remain humbled by all of our brilliant creative partners who made this show so exceptional," the producers said.
Members of the cast in season 1 included Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Adria Arjona, Ana Ularu, Jordan Loughran, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Joely Richardson, and Vincent D'Onofrio. Roxy Sternberg, Stefanie Martini, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Isabel Lucas, and Rebeka Rea played recurring characters in the show.
The content of the TV series is based on the "Oz" novels written by L. Frank Baum.
