After a surprise one-week break, "Elementary" fans will finally be able to view the series' latest episode. Aside from their case of the week, Sherlock and Watson will also have to deal with some personal conflicts.

"Elementary" was one of the few shows that aired a new episode during Thanksgiving, so fans were caught off-guard when the show was glaringly off the air a week after. As it turns out, the popular police procedural had to give way to the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers match. But the modernized, Sherlock-inspired series is back for the fifth episode of season 4.

A synopsis provided by the "Carter Matt" site for episode five revealed that Sherlock Holmes (Johnny Lee Miler) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) will be looking into the death of an archaeologist who might have been murdered for what he uncovered in his last excavation at a local landfill. The two will also be fighting some personal battles as Holmes' friendship with his former sobriety sponsor, Alfredo (Ato Essandoh), reaches a breaking point. Meanwhile, Det. Cortez (Monique Gabriela Curnen) is still causing trouble for Watson.

Finding historically significant objects are par for the course for archeologists, but getting murdered at the dig site is not. Now Holmes has to use his considerable powers of deduction to figure out why an archaeologist was killed. The pair will theorize that the quarry where the excavation is being done holds secrets that some people are willing to kill for.

Aside from the mysterious circumstances surrounding their latest case, one mystery that fans undoubtedly want answered is why Det. Cortez has been so hostile to Dr. Watson since day one.

Fans will recall that Watson learned that a Detective Cortez had been asking questions about her and when confronted, the detective admitted to her dislike of consultants and wary of Holmes and Watson's roles in the police force. The two tried to settle their differences via a boxing match but it appears that the bad blood is still there.

"Elementary" season four will air episode five, "The Game's Underfoot," on Dec. 10.
