DROID Turbo 2 reviews: thumbs up for shatterproof screen and hardware

(Motorola)DROID Turbo 2

Before the DROID Turbo 2 arrived from Motorola and became exclusively available through Verizon, it had to live up to the reputation of the first generation model that was released last year. However, as the reviews for the DROID Turbo 2 have started to arrive, it is clear that it has managed to outshine many rivals and even its predecessor due to it great features.

In its review of the new DROID which has been marketed as "shatterproof," Engadget states that it quite evident that the device is a beefed up version of the Moto X Style, which was released in the United States as the Pure Edition. However, the reviewer states that its most useful features are its durable screen and speedy performance.

Meanwhile, referring to its battery life, it is clear that the device does not last for 48 hours as per the advertising issued by Motorola but it outlasts other smartphones by a mile.

Finally, its states that from a design perspective, the DROID Turbo 2 is "pretty ugly" in spite of users being able to customize it on the Moto Maker website, as it appears that all the charm of the flagship Moto X Style has not been transferred to this particular device.

However, in its review, The Verge provides full marks to the design of the DROID Turbo 2 especially when comparing it to last year's DROID Turbo which, according to the website, came with a notable "robo-grunge" look. It also describes how the standard styling that Motorola uses on all its smartphones is now present on the device and it states that the ability to outfit it with different colored back panels made from Soft Grip, leather and ballistic nylon is a definite plus point.

It notes, though, that the "center point" of the device is its ShatterShield technology, which means that it does not break even if it is dropped down a flight of stairs. As for the actual technology used for making the display shatterproof, the reviewer notes that it includes several layers of plastic, and this makes the text and colors to appear dull.
