'Downton Abbey' Christmas Special 2015 spoilers, news: Series will tie up loose ends to give viewers emotional but satisfying ending

On Christmas Day, U.K.'s highest rated period drama "Downton Abbey" will air its series finale after six seasons.
Cast members have revealed that the two-hour Christmas Special will be very emotional. It will tie up loose ends and faithful viewers will be treated to a fulfilling ending. "The Christmas Day special will wreck you. Not in a horrible way, but you'll be in tears. It's really beautiful," added Jim Carter, who portrays butler Mr. Carson.
The upcoming Christmas Special will span five months, from July 25 to Dec. 31, 1925. Mary will try to reconcile with sister Edith after Mary had revealed to Bertie that Marigold was Edith's biological daughter.
Despite everything, it seems that Edith will have a happy ending as Express revealed that the cast and crew had filmed a wedding scene for the upcoming episode. Edith and Bertie may be tying the knot, given that the finale will introduce Mirada (played by Patricia Hodge), Bertie's mother.
Now that Mary has tied the knot with Henry, he will try to adjust to being a husband and stepfather. However, Henry will seemingly have difficulty adjusting to life at Downton. It seems that along the way, Henry will also finally come to terms with Charlie's tragic death.
Carson faces personal challenges as well, after he realized that he is not invulnerable to change and must adapt with the modern times. Bates and Anna's big day arrives but will have to go through their own twists and challenges before they attain their happy ending.
In the previous episode, Thomas Barrow tried to take his own life but was saved by housekeeper Phyllis Baxter. In the finale, the scheming under-butler will be leaving his job at Downton.
"The last ever episode offers all the love and loss, happiness and heartbreak of 'Downton Abbey,' and as the family and servants prepare to welcome 1926, they celebrate an unforgettable New Year's Even at the great house," ITV announced in a press release.
The final episode of "Downton Abbey" will air on Dec. 25, Friday at 8:45 p.m. (U.K time) on ITV. In the U.S., the sixth season premieres on Jan. 3 on PBS. The final Christmas Special will be aired on Feb. 28.
