'Downton Abbey' season 6 spoilers: fans shocked by Robert's collapse in episode 5; Cora and Violet battle over the hospital in episode 6

"Downton Abbey" is now on its last legs and fans of the beloved TV series are no doubt thinking back to some of the series' most memorable episodes. However, episode five of the current season will surely be one of those that fans will remember for years to come, largely due to Robert's unfortunate ulcer bursting and the amount of blood that spewed forth. Life at "Downton Abbey" becomes more fraught when Cora and Violet once again clash over plans for the hospital.
Episode five was a mostly ho-hum episode, with scenes of Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol), Daisy (Sophie McShera) and Andy helping Mr. Mason move into the farm and Andy's revelation that he can't read and Thomas offering to help him. There's also the awkward and eyebrow raising scene of Carson (Jim Carter) seemingly testing his new wife's culinary skills and picking apart everything she made.
But things got interesting towards the latter part of the hour, when "Downton Abbey" was all decked out for the arrival of the Minister of Health Neville Chamberlain, who had come to have dinner. However, while the rest were discussing the fate of the local hospital, Robert (Hugh Bonneville) suddenly collapses due to a burst ulcer and sprays everyone with blood. It certainly was a worrying sight that had fans worried. But it appears that he's on the road to recovery after a successful surgery. The night ended with Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), apparently angered with Violet's (Maggie Smith) machinations, telling Chamberlain to continue with the hospital merger.
This decision regarding the hospital doesn't bode well for the residents of "Downton Abbey" and will play out in the next episode. A synopsis for episode six hints of a division among the ranks as Tom (Allen Leech) and Mary (Michelle Dockery) allow the public in the estate for one day as a way of helping the hospital.
However, it seems the hospital takeover won't go smoothly as Cora and Violet still have some issues to resolve. Mary has a surprise for Henry and Bertie arrives in Downton in order to visit Edith (Laura Carmichael). The two sisters are reportedly trying to find their own happiness and appears set to let go of their past.
Things are coming to a head in "Downton Abbey." But fans would have to wait until Oct. 25 to see what comes next for its residents.
