'Doctor Strange' update: Michael Stuhlbarg may be in talks for role of Nicodemus West

(Marvel)Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Doctor Strange.

"Doctor Strange" is coming to the big screen to help kick-off Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, only four actors have been confirmed (including, of course, the one playing the title role) but if negotiations push through, then one more name will be added to the cast roster.

Michael Stuhlbarg is currently best known for his role as Arnold Rothstein on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and as Apple engineer Andy Hetzfeld in the film "Steve Jobs." According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is now in talks to play a key (but still undisclosed) role in the 2016 Marvel movie "Doctor Strange." Though the actor already appeared as Griffin in the 2012 "Men in Black 3," Strange will technically be his first venture into a superhero film.

The casting has been unconfirmed yet and so is the role but Variety already reports that their sources have dropped a name on the 47-year old's supposed role. According to the online publication, Stuhlbarg will be stepping into the shoes of Nicodemus West, an admirer-turned-rival for Stephen Strange.

In the comic books, Nicodemus West is also a surgeon, who have long admired Stephen Strange and eventually operated on him when he had his car accident. The surgery, however, was not all too successful, leaving Strange with nerve damage. He also followed Strange into Kamar-Taj to have his mystical training with the Ancient One. He, unfortunately, did not complete his training.

"Doctor Strange" is tentatively schedule for a November 2016 release and is the second movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three ("Captain America: Civil War" in May being the first). It stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role and he will be joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, and Rachel McAdams. The latest news also say Kevin Feige confirmed it to be an origins story for the mystical superhero.
