'Descendants of the Sun' season 2 rumors: did production begin for the sequel?

(Facebook / Descendants of The Sun)"Descendants of The Sun" featured many love stories, the most popular being that of the lead characters Yoo Shi Jin and Kang Mo Yeon. Many were also hooked on the story of Seo Dae Young and Yoon Myeong Ju.

Multiple reports have surfaced saying production for the most-awaited sequel, "Descendants of the Sun" season 2, has already started. However, no official announcement has been made yet and different versions about the upcoming season continue to make the rounds.

The success of "Descendants of the Sun" is such that Korean stars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have become international stars. However, it's not just the stars that made the show popular but the story itself.

An article in Soompi reports that KBS head of drama department Jung Sung Ho expressed his gratitude to the viewers in an interview and said, "KBS will strive to produce a second 'Descendants of the Sun' to meet expectations and repay viewers. We plan to launch a 2017 'Descendants of the Sun' project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team." He also clarified that not all of the people involved in the first series could return, but this did not stop fans from hoping that important people will make a comeback.

Co-writer Kim Won Suk, however, has said that he does not plan on making another season since he has already told the story he wanted to tell. He also wished Yoo Si Jin a happy life thereon. Lead star Song Joong Ki has been busy as well, and while he is working on a movie, he may not have time to make another series at the moment or anytime soon.

This, however, did not stop fans from hoping, and there have been conflicting reports about his involvement. Other speculations say that the next season will focus on Seo Dae Young and Kim Ji Won, whose love story was also essential to the series.

Rumors go as far as saying production has already started, but no official statement has been issued by KBS.
