Denver Nuggets trade rumors 2016: Warriors' Klay Thompson the main target?

The name regularly linked to the Denver Nuggets as of late is that of Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson, and this might continue in the coming weeks and maybe even when the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season is under way.

(Reuters/Steve Mitchell/USA TODAY Sports)Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson (11) is pressured by Miami Heat forward Justise Winslow (20) during the second half at American Airlines Arena.

Aiming for Thompson or any of the Warriors' stars seems pointless as of the moment because last season's runner-ups are unlikely parting ways with either one of them, especially after Kevin Durant's arrival. But this is also the same reason why they are expected to accomplish a deal in the future.

Some view Golden State's acquistion of Durant as a problem since the team has too many stars and this could lead to them bidding farewell to one of them.

In recent reports, Thompson is seen as the odd man out and a possible destination for him if the Warriors pursue a swap is in Denver.

The Nuggets may have the assets to complete a deal for Thompson but this will likely require them to give up some of their best players. Names mentioned in past rumors are the likes of Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, Will Barton and Gary Harris.

Gallinari and Faried are undoubtedly the leaders for Denver in the past few seasons. Gallinari is a scorer, while Faried provides hustle and energy. This is why they have significant trade value and give the Nuggets their best chance of landing Thompson.

Thompson would give Denver the star it has been longing for these past few years. Since Carmelo Anthony left, the franchise relied on role players and this has not brought much success.

The Nuggets will be Thompson's team, he is going to be the main guy, the top scoring option, and the franchise star, although it is unknown if this is what he likes because despite having him, Denver is still far from being a championship team.
