Dallas Mavericks injury, roster rumors 2016: Right knee injury to end Chandler Parsons' season?
The Dallas Mavericks surely wanted to finish the regular season strong and reach the playoffs, but those dreams are in jeopardy as forward Chandler Parsons is in danger of missing the remainder of the season due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.
ESPN reported that Parsons is likely to undergo arthroscopic surgery, according to Dr. Daniel Worrel, to address the current health setback but it will sideline him for the rest of the Mavs' current campaign. The report added that the 27-year-old will have a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache before going through the procedure.
Parsons is in his second year with Dallas. It is also the second straight time his season ended because of a knee woe.
In 61 games (51 starts) played this season, Parsons is averaging 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, in 29.5 minutes played per contest.
This is a tough news to digest for the Mavericks who are trying to have great momentum as the 2015-16 regular season winds down. Currently, Dallas is seventh in the Western Conference standings with a 35-36 record.
The sixth, seventh, and eighth spots in the West are jammed as the Portland Trail Blazers (37-35), Mavs, and the Utah Jazz (35-36) are all competing to have the better position entering the playoffs.
Because of the injury, rumors regarding Parsons opting out of his existing deal are circulating. The former Florida Gator can be a free agent following the season since he has a player option for 2016 in his contract.
Parsons is a quality small forward who can contribute efficiently in every aspect of the game, especially in scoring. That is why teams will surely be interested to grab him from Dallas, if he decides to be available on the market.
The Mavericks continue life without Parsons when they face the Golden State Warriors at the ORACLE Arena on Friday.
