'Criminal Minds' season 12 episode 16 spoilers: Reid tries to survive in prison; BAU progresses in Bone Crusher case

A new episode for "Criminal Minds" season 12 returns this week, with Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) continuing to struggle in his new life in prison.
In episode 15 of the American police procedural crime television show, Reid began his life in prison. The other inmates seemed uncomfortable having an agent from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) along with them and they started bullying Reid. Later on, Reid met Calvin Shaw (Harold Perrineau), a former FBI agent with a mysterious past. However, that did not make his adjustment in jail smooth-sailing.
When episode 16 returns this week, Reid will continue to have a hard time especially since the other inmates are starting to target him and hurt him in a very serious manner. Titled "Assistance Is Futile," the official synopsis of the upcoming episode reveals that Reid "adapts to a new set of rules in prison life."
In the promotional trailer for episode 16, Shaw asks Reid if he is a predator or a prey. It looks like Shaw is giving Reid some idea and tips on how to survive inside the jail. However, it is still unclear whether his intents are true or not.
The preview also reveals that two men show up in Reid's cell, first accusing him of being a snitch before the bigger one attacks him. It gives the impression that Reid may come out badly beaten by the bullies if he does not get immediate help from Shaw. Nonetheless, the title of the upcoming episode also seems to suggest that any help is in vain.
Meanwhile, episode 16 will also see the FBI progressing on the case of an unsub named Bone Crusher after a mother comes forward to give the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) a very valuable information regarding the matter. In the snippet, the group finds a room full of weird doodles posted on the wall of the suspect. The BAU must double time in order to capture the criminal who tortures his victims by crushing their bones.
"Criminal Minds" season 12 airs episode 16 on Wednesday, March 15, at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
