'Criminal Minds' season 11 news: Emily Prentiss returns to the BAU; CBS confirms guest appearance from Paget Brewster for springtime episode

CBS has confirmed that Paget Brewster will be returning to season 11 of "Criminal Minds" later this Spring. Brewster, who portrays Emily Prentiss, will be returning for a guest appearance in an upcoming episode.
According to CBS' press release, "Prentiss was known for her loyalty, and is remembered for her dedication to JJ when she was kidnapped by terrorists. When we last left Prentiss, during the Season 7 finale, she expressed her desire to work with international cases."
In season six, it was revealed that Prentis had previously worked with Interpol and was responsible for the arrest of terrorist Ian Doyle. Doyle, having escaped prison, went on the hunt for Prentiss who he believed killed his son. Afraid for her life, Prentiss staged her death in season six and only returned after Doyle's capture. Then, in season seven, after receiving an offer from Interpol, Prentiss decided to leave the BAU and join Interpol as an agent.
Brewster returned in season nine and reprised her role as Prentiss for the show's 200th episode.
In the upcoming episode, Prentiss will reunite with her former BAU teammates as she hunts down an elusive international serial killer. Prentiss will enlist the help of the BAU as she is convinced that the serial killer's next victim will be on U.S. territory.
CBS has yet to announce a specific air date for Prentiss' return.
Last August, during the Television Critics Association press tour, Brewster had expressed her interest in returning to "Criminal Minds." Brewster was interested in filming a couple of episodes while former cast mate A.J. Cook, who plays JJ, was on maternity leave. Unfortunately, with her commitment to comedy "Grandfathered," Brewster was unable to make time in her schedule.
"It just didn't work out, which was too bad because I love those guys. I love the writers, I'm still friends with everyone there... But it just didn't work out, which was a shame. I really wanted to do it!," she revealed.
Viewers are now thrilled and excited with the return of one of their beloved "Criminal Minds" characters. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
Season 11 of "Criminal Minds" airs every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
