'Criminal Minds' Savannah dies, Derek Morgan leaves in season 11 episode 18?
Fans of crime drama TV series "Criminal Minds" continue to speculate on whether Morgan will survive the latest season or if his recent experiences will finally push him to say good-bye to the BAU.
Recent episodes have focused more on Morgan (Shemar Moore) and his slowly unravelling life. Fans saw the profiler kidnapped and tortured in episode 16, "Derek." Morgan survived the ordeal, thanks in part to his father Hank (Danny Glover) appearing as his spirit guide, and proposed to girlfriend Savannah (Rochelle Aytes). But their happiness was short-lived as episode 17 ended with the sound of a gun being fired and the pregnant Savannah screaming.
Things will come to a head in the upcoming episode as Morgan hunts down those threatening his and Savannah's lives. The synopsis for episode 18, "A Beautiful Disaster," simply states that "when an UnSub targets the BAU, the team goes into action to find out who is responsible."
The synopsis is certainly devoid of important details, but fans have been quick to notice that the episode seems to be a big collaboration among the show's stars. Stars Matthey Gray Gubler and Kirsten Vangsness have taken on directorial and writing duties, respectively, on this episode, giving the impression that the piece might be a game changer as far as how the series will move forward.
The trailer for episode 18 gives fans a better idea on what to expect from the upcoming episode — and it's not pretty. The clip starts with JJ (A.J Cook), Hotch (Thomas Gibson), and Rossi (Joe Mantegna) rushing out of the hospital, followed by a shot of Morgan carrying Savannah. What appears to be a flashback shows the two kissing. They're out in the open, standing beside their car. As Morgan's fiancée fights for her life in the hospital, he angrily tells Hotch that he can't just "sit down and do nothing." Seeing that he's emotionally compromised, Hotch takes him off the case. The BAU leader certainly made the right call, but it obviously doesn't sit well with Morgan, who's out for blood. One scene shows him entering a house and Penelope (Vangsness) realizes that he's walking into a trap. Scenes show Morgan discovering several monitors and someone calmly loading bullets into a gun. The clip ends with Morgan on the phone. He tearfully calls out "Baby Girl" and Penelope drops the phone and rushes out.
The last scene has undoubtedly had fans worried, especially at the broken way Morgan calls for Penelope. The rumor mill has been churning nonstop on how the episode will end, with some saying that Morgan will be killed, while others are saying that it will be Savannah. There are also those who theorize that Morgan might leave the team to focus on raising a family.
What is certain is that the episode will end with someone leaving. The Zap2it site reported months ago that Gubler will direct a special episode that will feature the departure of one regular members.
Episode 18 of "Criminal Minds" season 11 will be aired on March 23.
